Be A Rational Person

When you are training, don’t just focus on your physical body. Also, train your mind. When you have four people lying on top of you, your mind will tell you you can’t move. But you can. The movements may be small, but they are there. Don’t let your mind tell you there are fewer options available than there are. On YouTube is a picture of me with 18 guys piled on top of me. And I could move. Not a lot, but enough. Have patience. When you begin training, your mind might immediately tell you you should be good. But be rational. It’s unlikely you’re going to be good at something right away. Give yourself time. Give yourself the benefit of commitment and patience to your training. You will see the results. It’s faster than you think.

Train your rationalization. So much of life is like fighting. You must be active, ready to move, calm, and connected in a fight. Not in a panic. Not amped up in your nervous system. This is where training your rationalization or training your mind comes in. In a fight, your body knows what to do. If you will let it go. Most people don’t know how to let their bodies go. They haven’t trained their mind to quiet and get out of the way so the body can do what it knows how to do so that the body can react. In a fight, your mind will go to all sorts of places that limit and arrest the movement in your body. This is no good. You want to train to eliminate this response. You want to train your rationalization to realize there are other options beyond your logical and linear thinking limits. This applies to your life beyond fighting as well. How often do we look at a situation, whether with a relationship, job or project and quickly decide whether these are our only options? Based on my experience of the past, my beliefs and what people have told me. But, like in a fight, there is so much more available to you than your rational mind can allow. Training your mind to quiet, getting into the body and feeling for other ways forward will open up other possibilities.
Our work here focuses on training the mind as it teaches the body. We have a mind-body system. They are connected and integrated. Both need to be engaged for mastery in fighting and life.
